2 weekend cop shootings called justified

In the Northwest Side fatal shooting of Kraft, police said they were responding to a
domestic disturbance call in the 8500 block of West Winnemac Avenue. When officers
arrived, they encountered a woman outside the apartment who said Kraft, her boyfriend,
was threatening to harm himself inside their home.
Officers entered the apartment and told Kraft to drop the machete and knife he was
holding, police said. Instead, he lunged at them, and one of the officers responded with a
shot, police said.
“Based on this incident, the [officer] acted within department guidelines,” Bond said this
morning.
Kraft was pronounced dead at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
Police said Kraft had been acting erratically throughout the day and appeared suicidal.
